City of Lincoln NEV Plan

The City of Lincoln has initiated work on the NEV plan that was authorized by AB2353. We will use this section of the forum to keep you up to date on the activities.
Roger Oldenkamp and Dan Karleskint are the LSV group representatives to the planning activity. They are participants in meetings held between the Consultants(MHM Consulting) and the various government agencies.

First meeting of planning group held at McBean Park conference room. Members of the team introduced themselves and a welcome was given by Mayor Cosgrove.
Discussions included the definitions of NEVs which were subsequently agreed to.
It was decided that in the future where NEV striped lanes were needed, bicycles would share those lanes.
It was decided that the intent of the NEV Transportation Plan was that it would be possible for an NEV to have access to anywhere in the City of Lincoln, using striped lanes if necesssary.
It was agree that there should be complete isolation of the NEV Transportation Plan from the Twelve Briges Golf Cart Transportation Plan.

May 12 2005
The second meeting of the NEV Plan activity met to discuss striping and signage with representatives of CalTrans. There were 6 representatives from CalTrans, encompassing, area, district and headquarters groups.
Because we are breaking new territroy not only at the State level, but also potentially at the Federal level, it was decided that the first signs that we will use denoting NEV lanes will be text signs rather than symbol signs. Example of the signs we are proposing to use will be presented to the appropriate state committee at their next meeting in June, Gerry Meis, on of the attendees is chairperson of the committee.
Discussions about Federal signage and rules were held and it was suggested that we get companies with national exposure and needs to partner with us in our approach to the Federal Highway people.
